The TEAM Method

The TEAM prayer method is a set of guidelines intended to foster connection with God as we pray. TEAM is an acronym for the following:

Target

By target we mean focused, short, specific prayers. We target one topic at a time, keeping each prayer brief. This allows others to be part of the prayer conversation. Good conversations have plenty of “back and forth", and we believe the same is true of corporate prayer. We encourage several shorter prayers as a type of dialogue, rather than one long monologue.

“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.” - Matthew 6:7.

The body is not one but many.

Engage

We want to connect with the Holy Spirit. We engage with the Lord, asking Him to guide our prayers and time. We expect Him to answer and that His Spirit will lead and direct us.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” - John 14:16-17.

Agree

There's power in unity. We want to actively agree with others as they pray. This can be verbally or quietly, and allows us to join with others in prayer.

“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” - Matthew 18:19-20.

Magnify

We begin our meetings with our attention on the Lord. We want to magnify Him during this time, getting our attention off ourselves and our situations by focusing on praising Him with a heart of gratitude.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting, And His faithfulness to all generations. - Psalm 100:4-5.
